State roundup: Wayne State falls on late field goal

Ryan Laberge kicked a 24-yard field goal with 22 seconds to play and Northern Michigan defeated visiting Wayne State, 33-30, on Saturday. Wayne State had led 23-10 early in the third quarter, and after losing that lead regained it at 30-27 when finance major Carl Roscoe hit Michael Johnson with a 9-yard touchdown pass with 6:18 to play. But Laberge tied the score with his third field goal with 4:38 to play before winning the game with his fourth. Wayne State built its initial lead behind a 20-yard run by management major Desmond Martin, a 37-yard scoring pass from Roscoe to Jamel Hicks and three field goals by Paul Graham.
